Which is better, Softbox of Umbrella Lighting kits in photography…?

I want to purchase a lighting kit for my small business studio and trying to do some research on which was the best quality and what I should get. I was wondering what would be best, softboxes or umbrella? If anyone has a suggestion that would be greatly appreciated. And if you know of a product that has worked for you please post the site I could find that on as well. Thanks..

For low end budget portrait studios, most use umbrellas. If you want to do anything moody or creative I would suggest you plan to have both. They give different light and have different uses. Often the softbox gives the key(main) light and the umbrella is used as fill light.
We don’t know what kind of lights you have or how many so it’s hard to give too much information. We also don’t know if you are shooting people or products. I suggest you go to strobist.com and look around. Lots of good info there…
