How to work a gray card with a photography camera?

This my first time using a black and white film and I wondering how you use the meter or whatever to focus and shoot with they gray card…

Place the gray card in the light where your subject is. Zoom your camera in so the gray card is the only thing you see in the viewfinder. Check your in-camera light meter and set the aperture to the f-stop the light meter tells you to set it at.
